I went to my first yoga class in 1996. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I left the session feeling stretched out, revitalised and relaxed. I loved it. The more I discovered about yoga as a holistic discipline, the more it made sense to me.
In 2002 I made my first trip to India to learn more: more about the asanas (the physical postures), pranayama (breath), meditation and philosophy. After coming back I spent several years discovering and practising different styles of yoga, including Iyengar (amazing for alignment), hatha (lovely holistic approach) and Ashtanga vinyasa (beautiful meditative, flowing practice where you move with the breath).
In 2011, I completed my first teacher training in Vrindavan, India with Sivananda Yoga, an international school of yoga with centres and ashrams all over the world. I was then mentored at the Sivananda Centre in Putney, London.
In 2012, I completed my advanced teacher training with Michel Besnard, a very experienced teacher who has studied extensively with BKS Iyengar and Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Michel teaches Ashtanga yoga with a specific focus on Iyengar alignment. During that teacher training I studied philosophy with Carlos Pomeda. In 2016, I completed my advanced Yin Yoga training with Norman Blair, a style that has deeply influenced me and the way in which I teach both slow and dynamic classes. I have also studied Well Woman yoga therapy with Uma Dinsmore Tuli and Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs with Alison Trewhela.
I have taught in centres in London, Uganda where I was a VSO volunteer, and Cornwall. I am now based in Fort William, Scotland. I teach vinyasa flow, a dynamic, flowing style of yoga that links movement and breath, Yin yoga, a lovely, slow meditative style that provides a perfect complement to more dynamic yoga or exercise and pre-natal yoga, a wonderful way to relax, bond with your baby and prepare for birth. I continue to train with inspiring teachers as often as I can.
I am registered as a Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) with Yoga Alliance UK, I am a TeenYoga teacher and am currently training to become a Yoga Therapist. I have also been funded through Sportivate to deliver yoga to teens.
